Hands Around The World Jersey has been visiting Bugarama in the south west corner of Rwanda for the past 14 years and we have forged a strong bond of partnership with a set of nine schools in the area.
With the support of Jersey Overseas Aid we have built classrooms, toilets, security walls, girls’ hygiene rooms and playgrounds, as well as supporting disadvantaged students to stay in education and proceed to university of vocational training.
We offer the opportunity for Jersey volunteers to join us for a short visit to Rwanda taking part in renovation and painting projects in schools alongside local people. We promise you an unforgettable experience.
We are currently supporting two major programmes:
(1) St Paul Muko has encouraged 280 street children to return to education by offering two meals a day every day of the year;
(2) Many disadvantaged girls drop out of school through period poverty. We are distributing dignity bags to over 3,000 local girls.
