The Living Rosary

 The Sorrowful Mysteries

Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
AMEN.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
AMEN.

Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name
thy kingdom come
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with Thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
AMEN.

Glory to the Father (Prayer of Praise)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
AMEN.

Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, holy queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, O most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

Response:
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ, Let us pray; O God, whose only begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech you, that meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise.

Through the same Christ our Lord.
AMEN

The Sorrowful Mysteries

1. The Agony in the Garden
Jesus undergoes his agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. Spirit of Prayer, Sorrow for Sin
Then he said to them, "My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with me." He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as I will, but as you will."

2. The Scourging at the Pillar
Jesus is scourged at the pillar. Modesty and Purity
Then Pilate took Jesus and had him scourged.

3. The Crowning with Thorns
Jesus is crowned with thorns. Courage
The soldiers led him away inside the palace, that is, the praetorium, and assembled the whole cohort. They clothed him in purple and, weaving a crown of thorns, placed it on him.

4. The Carrying of the Cross
Jesus carries the cross to Calvary. Patience in Suffering
And carrying the cross himself he went out to what is called the Place of the Skull, in Hebrew, Golgotha.

5. The Crucifixion and Death of Our Lord on the Cross
Jesus dies on the cross for our sins. Self-denial, Perseverance
After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I thirst." There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, "It is finished." And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit.
